Welcome
to the Institute of Diaspora Studies.
The Institute of Diaspora Studies (IDS) is a
non-profit interdisciplinary research organization
established in the summer of 2000. The IDS mission is
to promote academic discourse about religious and
ethnic diasporas around the world in general and in
the US in particular.
The IDS organized two international conferences in
2000 and 2002. While the first conference explored
diverse religious communities, the second focused on
the role of sages, shrines, and festivals in
constructing diasporic identity. The theme of the
forthcoming conference is on mapping the future of
religious and ethnic diasporas.
The Institute has also begun to develop its
publication program. We solicit and consider
manuscripts of any length for the Occasional Series or
the Journal of Diaspora Studies (JDS). The first issue
of the JDS will be inaugurated in 2004.
